Either way works. The paper tool prints your size directly; a tape measure gives us a number to convert.

Cut the tool out. Position the wider end where you would wear your watch — sticky tape helps hold it there.
Wrap it tightly around your wrist. It should feel snug and not slide up or down.
Read the number the arrows point to. That is your band size.
If the arrows land on a line, take the smaller of the two numbers.Use a tailor’s measuring tape, or a strip of paper and a ruler.
Wrap the strip tightly around your wrist. Tape the starting edge down so it cannot shift.
Mark the strip with a pen exactly where it overlaps.
Measure from the starting edge to your mark. Be exact — do not round up.Same numbering as Apple’s Solo Loop.
Read it off the tape exactly. Rounding up is the most common way to end up a size too big.
